Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baqaei criticizes UN Secretary-General Guterres
Tehran, July 30 (Hibya) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei voiced support for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' remarks on violations of international law and conflicts, while criticizing him for not explicitly condemning the United States and Israel.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei commented on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' statements regarding international law.
In a post on social media, Baqaei cited Guterres' remarks that "there is an alarming disregard for international law, impunity is spreading, and failure to hold violations accountable paves the way for new violations."
While agreeing with Guterres' assessment, the Iranian spokesperson criticized the UN Secretary-General for not directly holding the United States and Israel responsible in his remarks.
Baqaei accused the United States and Israel of "granting impunity for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and acts of aggression," arguing that Guterres should assume responsibility to preserve the credibility of the United Nations and the international legal system.
On July 23, Guterres said that violations of international law were increasing, trust was eroding, and civilians were paying the highest price when military solutions were pursued.
