Parmitano, who was selected by NASA as the pilot of the Artemis III mission, is expected to play a key role in humanity's return to the Moon with the mission scheduled for 2027.
During the meeting, Meloni congratulated Parmitano on his new assignment, describing the achievement as a great source of pride for Italy. She also emphasized that Parmitano's space missions have strengthened Italy's international standing in the field of space technologies.
At the end of the visit, Meloni presented Parmitano with a replica of the official tricolor flag of the Italian Republic preserved at Palazzo Chigi. The symbolic flag is expected to represent Italy's national identity and scientific contribution during the Artemis III mission.
