In a joint statement by 18 leaders from Europe and allied countries, the two-week ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran was welcomed.

Among the leaders participating in the statement were French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.

The statement said: “We welcome the two-week ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran. We thank Pakistan and all partners who contributed to achieving this important agreement. The aim should be to negotiate a swift and lasting end to the war in the coming days, and this can only be achieved through diplomatic means. We call on all parties, including Lebanon, to implement the ceasefire. This process is critical for protecting civilians in Iran and ensuring regional security, and it may also prevent a serious global energy crisis. We will contribute to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
