Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev held a meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Water, Retno Marsudi.

During the meeting, the growing importance of global water security was highlighted, and it was emphasized that declining water resources could trigger economic, environmental, and social crises.

Kazakhstan stated that it places special importance on water security ahead of the upcoming Astana Regional Ecology Summit.

The parties also discussed initiatives to establish an International Water Organization under the UN framework and to strengthen regional cooperation in global water governance.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue dialogue within the framework of the UN Almaty Regional Center for Sustainable Development.
