Lahbib: Civilians cannot continue to pay the price
Brussels, Aug. 13 (Hibya) - European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Hadja Lahbib reported that 563,000 civilians are trapped in Sudan's city of El Obeid, while 105,000 people had previously been displaced.
Lahbib said in a statement that fuel stations, markets and hospitals in the city had been affected by attacks, adding, “All these facilities are protected under international law.”
Stressing that El Obeid must not become a repeat of what happened in El Fasher, Lahbib said, “El Obeid must not become another El Fasher. Civilians cannot continue to pay the price.” Lahbib also drew attention to the importance of the African Union-European Union partnership in protecting civilians.
