Lahbib: Estonian parliament adopted a historic consent law
Brussels, June 12 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib congratulated the Estonian parliament on adopting a new law requiring explicit and voluntary consent in sexual relations.
EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib highlighted the importance of the newly adopted legislation for social safety and progress.
Emphasizing the changes introduced by the law and the security it will provide, Lahbib said: "The Estonian parliament has adopted a historic consent law. Sexual relations must always be based on clear and voluntary consent. Thanks to this, Estonian women and all Estonians will be safer."
Expressing her satisfaction with the reform, Lahbib concluded her message by saying: "This is what progress looks like. Congratulations, Estonia!"
