European Commission President Leyen said that in a world becoming increasingly fast and turbulent, Christmas provides us with a rare moment to pause, breathe, slow down, and truly remember what is important.

She added that this period should refocus attention on families, friends, chosen families, and those who give life meaning, saying:

“For some, this period may be challenging. We feel the pain of those carrying the burden of loneliness, sorrow, illness, or loss. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to all the workers who continue to serve others in hospitals, shelters, and homes on this special day. You embody the values of solidarity and compassion that Christmas represents.”

Leyen also expressed that they are thinking of their friends in Ukraine and added: “We hope that the coming year will bring a just and lasting peace, and then a secure and prosperous future in our unity. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”
