Leyen: I call on member states to swiftly approve this new package
Brussels, February 6 (Hibya) – President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that they have presented the 20th sanctions package against Russia, covering energy, financial services, and trade.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that Russia will only come to the negotiating table with sincere intent if it is put under pressure.
Leyen reported that they have presented the 20th sanctions package against Russia, covering energy, financial services, and trade. She noted that Russia’s financial revenues from oil and natural gas decreased by 24 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching their lowest level since 2020, and added:
“This confirms what we already know: our sanctions are working. I call on the member states to swiftly approve this new package. Doing so will send a strong message ahead of the grim fourth anniversary of this war: our commitment to a free and sovereign Ukraine is unwavering.”
