Leyen: We are exerting pressure on Russia's war economy
Brussels, April 23 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement among EU member states on a €90 billion loan package for Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package against Russia.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that she is on her way to Cyprus and shared details of decisions that will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capacity and increase pressure on the Russian economy.
Highlighting the importance of the agreement, von der Leyen said: “I welcome the agreement reached by Member States on a €90 billion loan for Ukraine for 2026–2027 and the 20th sanctions package.”
Emphasizing Europe’s response to Russia’s increasing attacks, von der Leyen stated: “While Russia doubles its aggression, we are doubling our support for the brave Ukrainian nation, enabling Ukraine to defend itself and exerting pressure on Russia’s war economy.”
The Commission President added that the process will continue with determination, stating: “We will now move swiftly to implementation on both fronts.”
