Meloni: Migration cannot be left to the mercy of crime
Rome, February 4 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that migration cannot be left to the mercy of crime, emphasizing that the government will continue working to restore strict rules and the rule of law.
Meloni pointed out that the investigation by the Salerno prosecutor's office, which uncovered 36 suspects and over 2,000 fake residency applications, confirms the concerns raised by the government.
She noted that migration flows have long provided fertile ground for unscrupulous criminals, fueling an illegal business worth millions of euros.
"We have decided to tighten controls to prevent the exploitation of regular entry quotas by those who use migration for commercial purposes," she said.
She concluded: "Migration cannot be left to the mercy of crime. We will continue working to restore strict rules and the rule of law."
