Merz emphasizes freedom and democracy on 65th anniversary of Berlin Wall
Berlin, August 13 (Hibya) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on the 65th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall that freedom and democracy are not values that can be taken for granted.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted that 65 years have passed since the East German leadership built the Berlin Wall, saying that Germany has now been united for longer than it was divided.
Merz said Germany today lives in freedom and peace, stressing that the lesson of the Berlin Wall must not be forgotten.
Merz said freedom and democracy are not values that exist automatically, adding that they must be continuously defended and protected.
