NASA: A total lunar eclipse will occur tonight
Washington, March 13 (Hibya) – The United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that after midnight Eastern Time, the Moon will completely enter the Earth's shadow, resulting in a total lunar eclipse.
According to NASA’s statement, after midnight Eastern Time, the Moon will completely enter the Earth’s shadow, causing a total lunar eclipse.
On the night of March 13 or in the early morning of March 14, depending on the time zone, the Moon will enter the Earth's shadow and turn red.
The statement noted that a lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, and the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow.
“During a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon enters the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, called the umbra. While inside the umbra, the Moon appears red-orange. Because of this phenomenon, lunar eclipses are sometimes called ‘Blood Moons’.”
