NASA: Williams' space mission contributed to cancer treatment research
Washington, July 23 (Hibya) – NASA announced that the scientific studies conducted by astronaut Chris Williams during his eight-month mission, as he prepares to complete his first mission aboard the International Space Station, contributed to research into cancer treatments and space technologies.
According to NASA, Williams participated in experiments aimed at developing new cancer treatments, contributed to research on producing materials for computer and electronic technologies, and completed two spacewalks during his mission.
NASA said Williams, together with European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Sophie Adenot, conducted studies on processing DNA-inspired rod-shaped materials in the space environment. The agency stated that the more uniform and consistent formation of these materials under microgravity conditions could contribute to the development of targeted cancer treatments for use on Earth.
The research aims to enable medicines to penetrate deeper into tumor tissue, remain in the body longer, and be released in a controlled manner.
