Netanyahu: I instructed that direct negotiations with Lebanon be launched
Jerusalem, April 9 (Hibya) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that, in response to requests coming from Lebanon, he had instructed that direct negotiations with the Beirut administration be launched in order to disarm Hezbollah and establish lasting peace.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a statement following the cabinet meeting, spoke about the new diplomatic process to be carried out with Lebanon and the regional security goals.
Announcing his decision regarding the negotiation process, Netanyahu said, "In light of Lebanon's repeated requests to begin direct negotiations with Israel, at yesterday's cabinet meeting I instructed that direct negotiations with Lebanon begin as soon as possible."
Listing the main agenda items of the talks, Netanyahu said, "The negotiations will focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah and the establishment of peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon."
Referring also to the recent stance of the Lebanese government, Netanyahu said, "Israel appreciates the Lebanese Prime Minister's call today for the disarmament of Beirut."
