New labeling initiative for seafood caught in the United States
Washington, October 24 (Hibya) - A statement regarding the "US-Caught Seafood" labeling initiative indicated that the measure would allow consumers to identify the origin of seafood products and support the domestic fishing industry.
US President Donald Trump launched an initiative to establish a label for seafood caught in the United States.
NEFSA Advocacy Director Jason Joyce stated that the initiative was important for consumers, American fishermen, seafood processors and retailers.
Joyce noted that American fishermen comply with strict regulatory, health, safety and environmental standards. He emphasized that consumers have the right to know that their seafood has been caught safely and sustainably by American fishermen.
Joyce stated that the label would enable consumers to easily identify American-sourced seafood and support the domestic fishing, processing and retail sectors.
