Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Summit held in Bishkek.

According to a statement by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting discussed global and regional developments, preparations for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meeting, and work at the UN Security Council.

Dar appreciated Guterres’ leadership in strengthening the UN’s role in finding solutions to global challenges and advancing effective multilateralism.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s strong commitment to the UN, Dar emphasized the longstanding and close nature of relations between Pakistan and the United Nations.

Guterres, for his part, appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive and principled role” in multilateral diplomacy. The UN Secretary-General also praised Pakistan’s contributions to promoting regional peace and security.

During the meeting, Dar invited UN Secretary-General Guterres to visit Pakistan. Guterres was reported to have accepted the invitation.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate with the UN Secretariat to determine the date of the visit.
