A statement by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar assessed the "Mecca Joint Defense Agreement" signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in Mecca on August 7, 2026.

It was stated that the agreement reflects the bonds of brotherhood among the three countries and their shared commitment to peace, security and stability.

The statement described the Mecca Agreement as an important milestone in Pakistan's longstanding strategic relations with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. It noted that the agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in addressing emerging peace and security challenges in the region.

Regarding the nature of the agreement, Pakistan's Foreign Minister specifically stated:

"The Mecca Agreement is defensive in nature. It is not directed against any country."

The primary objective of the agreement was stated to be strengthening collective deterrence against external aggression and enhancing the three countries' capacity to protect their sovereignty, territorial integrity and peoples.

According to the statement, the agreement provides that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all of them. This approach was said to be consistent with the right of individual and collective self-defense enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

It was emphasized that under the agreement, Pakistan will continue its commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and to respect for sovereignty and international law.

The statement described the Mecca Agreement as "not an instrument of conflict, but an expression of our shared commitment to peace through strength, solidarity and mutual respect."

Pakistan's Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan were credited with playing an important role in implementing the agreement, while their leadership in safeguarding the country's national interests and strengthening strategic partnerships with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye was commended.
