Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin met with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in Rome.

According to a statement issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of the International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.

During the meeting, Tajani reaffirmed Italy's support for the two-state solution, stating that the Palestinian Authority is an important partner for dialogue. He also reiterated Italy's opposition to the annexation of Palestinian territories and condemned settler violence in the West Bank.

The Italian foreign minister provided information on security cooperation, the training of the Palestinian police, activities carried out under the European Union Police Mission, and humanitarian assistance. He also referred to Italy's support for the education of Palestinian students and the treatment of injured children brought from Gaza.

Shahin, for her part, reviewed the situation in Gaza and developments in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. She said that Italy's recognition of the State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders would be an important step in supporting the two-state solution.

The two sides agreed to work on strengthening relations between Palestine and Italy.
