Plane flips over upon landing in Toronto, at least 18 injured
Toronto, February 18 (Hibya) - A plane carrying 80 passengers made a hard landing at Toronto Pearson Airport, flipped over, and at least 18 people were injured.
Footage from the scene showed a Delta Air Lines aircraft flipped over on a snow-covered runway, with people walking away from the wreckage.
Two critically injured individuals were airlifted to a nearby trauma center, while a child was taken by ambulance to a hospital in downtown Toronto. Twelve other people sustained minor injuries.
Flight 4819, operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, had departed from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and crashed while landing in Toronto at around 2:45 p.m. local time.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration stated that all 80 people on board had been evacuated.
The terrifying incident briefly halted traffic at Canada’s busiest airport. The accident occurred less than three weeks after an American Airlines aircraft collided mid-air with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over Washington, D.C., killing all 67 passengers on board.
