Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said the government fully understands the concerns of citizens in Gospic and the Lika-Senj region.

Plenkovic said efforts to clean up waste illegally stored in Gospic have entered a new phase and that all competent institutions are making maximum efforts to accelerate the process.

Plenkovic said all relevant institutions are continuing their work to speed up the process of cleaning up illegal waste in Gospic.

Plenkovic announced that, in addition to the work being carried out in the region, judicial proceedings would also be initiated against those responsible for illegally storing the waste.

Plenkovic also referred to the analyses carried out so far by the Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ).

Plenkovic said that according to all analyses conducted, water supplied from the public drinking water network in Lika is safe to drink, adding that checks on water quality are continuing.

Emphasizing that criminal responsibility for the problem caused by illegal waste in Gospić would also be determined, Plenkovic said legal action would be taken against everyone responsible for the offenses.

Plenkovic said in his statement, “All those responsible will be prosecuted.”
