Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic visited the city of Sinj ahead of the 311th Sinj Alka events, which keep alive the centuries-old traditions of the Cetina region.

Expressing his pleasure at being in Sinj, Plenkovic said, “I am very happy to be in Sinj again this year; traditionally, we are here on the eve of the 311th Sinj Alka, which has preserved the traditions, values and identity of the Cetina region for centuries and represents an important part of its cultural heritage.”

Referring to his meetings during the visit, Plenkovic said, “On this occasion, we visited the Mayor of Trilj, Ivan Bugarin, and then met with Alka Duke Marij Susnjar, standard-bearer Marijan Pavlinusic, former Alka harambasa Ivo Vukasovic, Alka harambasa Pavle Krizanec and alajcaus Ivica Filipovic Grcic, and visited the Church of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj and the new Chapel of Saint Francis of Assisi.”

Plenkovic concluded his statement by saying, “We are grateful to the Sinj Knightly Alka Society for everything and for their dedicated work to preserve this valuable heritage and pass it on to future generations.”
