Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a condolence message following the death of Father João Felgueiras, who passed away at the age of 105.

In its statement, the Ministry said it was deeply saddened by Felgueiras' passing.

It noted that Felgueiras, who served as a member of the Jesuit order for 75 years, devoted more than half a century to the mission in Timor-Leste and always stood by the Timorese people, including during the events of 1975.

The statement also expressed respect and gratitude for Felgueiras, who was honored with decorations by the states of Portugal and Timor-Leste.
