Qatar reiterates commitment to combating drug trafficking and corruption
New York, October 9 (Hibya) - Qatar reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking, preventing corruption and strengthening transparency during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Qatar reiterated at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly its commitment to combating drug trafficking and corruption and enhancing transparency.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amina Abdullah Salat, Third Secretary at Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the UN, outlined her country’s position during the 81st session of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly under agenda items concerning crime prevention, criminal justice and international drug control.
Salat highlighted cooperation between Qatar and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), saying the establishment of the UNODC Regional Centre for Combating Cybercrime in Doha had contributed to developing innovative and integrated solutions for preventing and combating cybercrime.
Salat recalled that Qatar signed the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in October 2025 and ratified it in February 2026, noting that the country was among the first states to ratify the convention.
Salat also said Qatar actively participated in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in Abu Dhabi from September 26 to October 1, 2026.
Referring to Qatar’s efforts in good governance, the rule of law, crime prevention and criminal justice, Salat recalled that Doha hosted the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2015. She said the Doha Declaration adopted at the congress aimed to integrate crime prevention and criminal justice into the UN agenda in order to address socioeconomic issues and strengthen the rule of law at national and international levels.
Salat said Qatar also hosted the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in December 2025. She said the conference concluded with the adoption of the 2025 Doha Declaration, which called for strengthening international cooperation and technical support, as well as utilizing artificial intelligence systems in preventing and combating corruption.
