Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar condemned the attack by an Israeli soldier on a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon, stating that necessary steps would be taken.

In his assessment of the incident, Saar said, “An attack by an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier on a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon is serious and disgraceful.”

Referring to the IDF’s statement on the matter, Saar said, “I take note of the IDF’s statement, its condemnation of the incident, and the ongoing investigation. I believe that the necessary steps will be taken against the individual who carried out this act.”

Emphasizing that the act is incompatible with the country’s values, Saar said, “This disgraceful act is completely contrary to our values. Israel is a country that respects different religions and their sacred symbols.”

Continuing his remarks, Saar added, “We apologize for this incident and bow our heads before every Christian whose feelings have been hurt.”
