Stubb: Finland is looking forward to the next 250 years of friendship with the United States
Helsinki, July 4 (Hibya) - Finnish President Alexander Stubb congratulated the American people on the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, saying that the friendship between the two countries will continue to grow stronger over the next 250 years.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that, during his youth, while studying at Furman University, he read the Federalist Papers and the Declaration of Independence. Recalling the Declaration's statement that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," Stubb emphasized that these texts played a crucial role in shaping constitutional democracies around the world.
Stubb noted that the ties between Finland and the United States date back to the founding of the American nation, adding that John Morton, one of the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence, is remembered as having Finnish ancestry.
"Today, as friends and allies, our countries are working closer together than ever before. Finland looks forward to the next 250 years of our friendship and partnership," Stubb said.
