Tajani discusses global issues with German counterpart Wadephul
Rome, August 19 (Hibya) - Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani held talks with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, discussing migration, Ukraine and developments in the Middle East.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that during his meeting with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul, dialogue between the two countries continued in a spirit of friendship.
Stating that migration was among the priority topics of the talks, Tajani said they shared common concerns regarding Ceuta and agreed on the need to ensure a high level of protection at Europe's external borders. Tajani also highlighted the need to strengthen coordination in the fight against human smuggling and reinforce the European Union's external dimension.
Addressing the diplomatic and security aspects of the meeting, Tajani said they reiterated their full support for Ukraine and would continue working to end the fighting and provide Kyiv with the necessary security guarantees. Emphasizing their condemnation of settler violence in the West Bank, Tajani reaffirmed their commitment to reducing tensions between Israel and Lebanon and to a two-state solution.
Highlighting the importance of maritime security, Tajani said: “We must work to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, as well as the security of trade routes.”
Emphasizing cooperation between the two countries across a broad geographical area, Tajani said: “Italy and Germany continue to coordinate foreign policy initiatives from the Balkans to Africa in order to best defend and protect the security and interests of our citizens and Europe.”
