Thailand plans to increase rice exports to China
Bangkok, March 31 (Hibya) - Thailand has announced it will increase rice exports to China due to the improvement in bilateral relations.
According to CCTV reports, in early March, the Thai government met with Chinese importers in Shenzhen to discuss a potential distribution center. With Thailand aiming to export 7.5 million tons of rice in 2024, further meetings are expected with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.
As Hong Kong expects more tourists to arrive this year, Kenneth Chan, President of the Hong Kong Rice Merchants Association, believes there will also be increased demand for rice.
Hong Kong is expected to import around 180,000 tons of rice from Thailand in 2024 alone. This figure was 150,000 tons last year.
