Thousands of women march across the U.S. for abortion rights
Washington, November 3 (Hibya) - Thousands of women organized rallies in the nation's capital and elsewhere on Saturday to support abortion rights and other feminist causes ahead of Tuesday's election.
Protesters carried posters and banners, chanting slogans like "We won't go back!" Some men also joined them. Speakers called on people to vote not only in the presidential race but also on lower-level issues, such as abortion rights amendments being presented to voters in various states.
At the Women's March in Washington, feminist activist Fanny Gomez-Lugo read a list of states with abortion ballot measures before leading the crowd with the chant "Abortion is freedom!"
In Kansas City, Missouri, rally organizers encouraged people to go door-to-door advocating for votes on abortion rights measures.
According to a poll among women voters, since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate against Donald Trump, abortion rights have become the most important issue for women under 30, surpassing inflation in presidential elections.
Nine states will consider constitutional amendments to secure abortion rights: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, and South Dakota.
Some participants in Saturday's rally also advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, higher wages, paid sick leave, and more efforts against gun violence.
