Trump: New decision expands fishing access in the Western Pacific
Washington, June 11 (Hibya) - United States (US) President Donald Trump announced a new measure to ease restrictions on commercial fishing activities in the Western Pacific Ocean.
United States (US) President Donald Trump announced a new step aimed at easing restrictions on commercial fishing activities in the Western Pacific Ocean.
Trump stated that the decision is intended to lower seafood costs and generate millions of dollars in new economic activity for the fishing industry. Under the regulation, commercial fishing access will be restored in three different areas of the Western Pacific.
The statement claimed that during previous administrations (Obama–Biden), fishing access for coastal communities was severely restricted for environmental reasons and that hundreds of thousands of square kilometers were closed to fishing.
Trump argued that these restrictions negatively affected the local fishing industry, weakened livelihoods, and increased US dependence on imports of certain seafood products.
