Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act
Washington, January 16 (Hibya) — Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act after anti-ICE protests flared following another shooting in Minneapolis.
President Donald Trump warned that he could activate the centuries-old law to deploy U.S. troops to Minnesota as state and federal officials clash over the tactics used by immigration agents.
Late last night, clashes broke out between law enforcement and demonstrators near the site where a federal agent allegedly shot and wounded a man said to have attacked him. During the clashes, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said two people emerged from a nearby apartment building and attacked the officer with a snow shovel and a broom handle. After the suspect managed to get away and join the assault, DHS said the officer fired “defensive shots,” wounding the man in the leg.
On Thursday night, as tensions continued, a CNN crew was struck by gas munitions after some type of projectile was thrown at federal agents during an anti-ICE protest outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information after several agency vehicles were damaged last night.
