Trump warns jail time would 'hurt' supporters
New York, June 3 (Hibya) - Donald Trump said it was unlikely that the public would meet a prison sentence for him with silence. A lawmaker on the committee investigating the attack on the Capitol said the remarks included a threat that his supporters would riot if Trump were sentenced to prison.
Donald Trump has said it is unlikely that the public would meet a possible jail sentence for him with silence, insisting that a prison sentence against him could cause animosity among his supporters.
The former president was found guilty on Thursday of all 34 bribery charges against him, but sentencing is scheduled for July 11. Experts say it is unlikely that Trump will be sentenced to jail time, even though each offence carries up to four years in prison.
In an interview with Fox television, Trump said that he would accept a prison sentence but that the public would probably not take it well. He noted that there are always changes in people's behaviour.
Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff, who sits on the investigative committee into the attack on the Capitol, said Trump threatened to incite his supporters to riot with those words. “We saw that results on January 6th,” Schiff said.
