Tsahkna: Europe must continue its support for Ukraine
Rome, March 24 (Hibya) - Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Estonia’s Foreign Minister Tsahkna evaluated security and regional developments during his meeting with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Tsahkna stated that developments in the Middle East and Russia’s attacks against Ukraine were discussed, saying: “Despite the shift in global attention, Russia has not changed its stance. Europe must continue its support for Ukraine and keep pressure and isolation on Russia at the center of its actions.”
Tsahkna emphasized that Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” was also on the agenda, noting that this structure enables sanctions evasion, finances Russia’s war capacity, and poses serious security and environmental risks.
He also stated that the necessity of restricting entry into the Schengen area for individuals participating in Russia’s aggressive war was discussed, adding:
“This situation is also recognized as a threat to internal security at the EU level. Estonia highly appreciates Italy’s contribution to NATO’s eastern flank, especially the NATO Air Policing mission in Ämari. At the same time, it continues to adhere to NATO’s 360-degree approach and contributes to addressing threats from the south.”
