Tsahkna: Pressure on Russia must be intensified
Tallinn, August 17 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, drawing attention to civilian casualties in Ukraine in July, called for increased international pressure on Russia and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna commented on the civilian casualties caused by Russia’s attacks in Ukraine, emphasizing that the international community must activate accountability mechanisms.
Referring to the civilian casualties in July and the devastating toll, Minister Tsahkna said, “Russia killed 437 Ukrainian civilians and injured 2,610 people in July; it was one of the deadliest months since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, with children making up a devastating share of these casualties.”
Drawing attention to the humanitarian tragedy and the demand for justice, Tsahkna said, “Behind these numbers are shattered families, stolen futures, and lives violently cut short. Every person killed, maimed, or traumatized by Russia deserves justice without compromise.”
Highlighting the importance of international investigative mechanisms, Tsahkna said, “These attacks on civilians must trigger credible international investigations, independent monitoring, and prosecution through accountability mechanisms. Pressure on Russia must be intensified until accountability becomes inevitable.”
Tsahkna concluded his appeal to the international community with the words, “Indifference is complicity.”
