European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the joint efforts to combat wildfires that continue to affect several European countries, stating that EU solidarity is being effectively maintained on the ground.

Listing the countries where the fires are still ongoing, von der Leyen said, “Wildfires are still raging in Spain, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Serbia. And European solidarity continues at full speed.”

Referring to cross-border assistance and support teams, von der Leyen said, “French teams have been deployed to Spain. Sweden and the Netherlands are fighting the fire in Belgium. Norway and Germany are also sending helicopters.”

Von der Leyen concluded her statement, noting that they are monitoring the situation, by saying, “We are closely following developments.”
