UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued a message on the occasion of World Encryption Day.
"We must acknowledge the urgency of protecting privacy in the digital age," said Türk. "Hacking and spyware tools undermine human rights and have negative effects on journalists, political figures, and human rights defenders. States and businesses must act now to protect privacy."
