Ukraine: Around 34,000 Jews were killed in Babyn Yar in two days
Kyiv, September 29 (Hibya) - Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commemorated those killed at Babyn Yar in Kyiv, noting that around 34,000 Jews were killed there by the Nazis in two days on September 29-30, 1941.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement commemorating those killed at Babyn Yar in Kyiv during the occupation by Nazi Germany.
In a social media post, the ministry said that around 34,000 Jews were killed by the Nazis at Babyn Yar in two days on September 29-30, 1941.
The statement said the executions began shortly after Nazi forces occupied Kyiv and continued throughout the occupation, noting that around 100,000 civilians and prisoners of war were killed in the area between 1941 and 1943.
The statement said that, in addition to Jews, those killed included Roma, Ukrainians and people of other nationalities.
Noting that around 1.5 million Ukrainian Jews were killed during the Holocaust, the ministry said, “We remember the victims of Babyn Yar and the millions of people killed across Europe. They must not be forgotten.”
