Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement marking the 12th anniversary of the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over the temporarily occupied Donetsk region of Ukraine on July 17, 2014.

In its statement, the ministry alleged that the aircraft was struck by a surface-to-air missile system brought from the territory of the Russian Federation and fired by Russian military personnel and individuals under their direct control. It recalled that 298 people from various countries lost their lives in the incident.

The statement argued that the MH17 tragedy was one of the first examples showing that Russia's aggression knows no borders, asserting that the incident was neither an accident nor a mistake.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry also claimed that Moscow had spent years trying to conceal evidence related to the incident, but said the joint efforts of the international community had thwarted those attempts.
