Ukrainians presented revised peace proposals
Stockholm, 11 December (Hibya) – U.S. and Ukrainian officials told CNN that on Wednesday Ukraine delivered its response to the latest U.S.-drafted peace proposal, aimed at ending the war with Russia, to the Trump administration, saying that the outlines of a fragile potential deal are taking shape and that the U.S. president continues to make it clear he wants the conflict to be resolved quickly.
Efforts to end the years-long war have accelerated significantly in recent weeks. President Donald Trump said in a statement to reporters at the White House on Wednesday, “Many people say it is closer than it has ever been,” suggesting that a solution could be “found soon.”
Trump said he had discussed “the Ukraine issue in rather strong terms” with his British, French and German counterparts, and that those counterparts had floated the idea of Trump flying to Europe this weekend to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We will make a decision depending on what they answer,” Trump said. “We don’t want to waste time.”
A European diplomat also said that the talks are “moving quickly” amid the U.S. president’s continued pressure and impatience.
Less than a month ago, an intensive diplomatic process began after the emergence of a 28-point draft proposal, prepared by the United States and backed by Russia, aimed at ending the war.
Following a series of consultations with Kyiv and a meeting in Moscow, the 28-point plan was reduced to 20 points in an effort to make it acceptable to both warring parties.
Talks are ongoing, and it remains unclear whether Kyiv has made any changes to the documents in its latest response.
