UNRWA: $100 million funding gap reaches critical level
New York, July 1 (Hibya) - UNRWA announced that despite securing an additional $4 million in pledges at a donor conference, it still faces a $100 million cash shortfall for 2026.
UNRWA's Acting Commissioner-General said the agency welcomes the strong political support shown by member states for its humanitarian operations.
At the donor conference, approximately $4 million in new funding was pledged for emergency assistance programs for Palestinian refugees. However, UNRWA stated that this amount does not significantly reduce the projected $100 million cash flow shortfall for 2026.
The statement stressed that stronger financial support from member states is needed to enable the agency to continue providing essential services and humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees under the mandate of the United Nations General Assembly.
UNRWA added that it is critically important for countries to reinforce their political support with financial contributions in the coming months.
