US carries out military strikes against ISIS targets in Syria
Stockholm, January 11 (Hibya) – US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it directed the strikes carried out on Saturday as part of Operation Hawkeye, ordered by President Donald Trump in retaliation for ISIS’s deadly attack on US forces in Syria on December 13.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were conducted to combat terrorism and protect US and partner forces in the region.
CENTCOM said, “Our message remains strong: if you harm our fighters, no matter how hard you try to evade justice, we will find and kill you anywhere in the world.”
An official added that the strikes involved F-15E, A-10, AC-130J aircraft, MQ-9 drones and Jordanian F-16s.
The locations of the strikes and the extent of possible casualties are not yet clear.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on X on Saturday regarding the military operation, “We will never forget and we will never back down.”
The Trump administration first announced Operation Hawkeye after ISIS militants ambushed and killed two US soldiers and a US civilian interpreter near Palmyra in central Syria in December.
Ahmed al-Sharaa, known by the alias Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, has served as the country’s head of state since his rebel group overthrew Assad and consolidated control.
Although ISIS has weakened in Syria, it remains active, particularly by carrying out attacks against Kurdish-led forces in the northeast in 2025.
