Vietnam prepares for super typhoon
Washington, September 7 (Hibya) - Preparations are being made along Vietnam's northern coastline after a super typhoon hit the Chinese resort island of Hainan, one of the country's neighbouring islands, on Friday.
According to Vietnamese state television, more than 3,000 people have been evacuated from Quang Ninh province, while 158 schools in Hai Phong have been closed or converted into shelters.
In Nam Dinh, more than 1,700 boats with 5,000 crew members have been diverted to other areas. In Thai Binh province, 7,700 families in poorly constructed areas have been evacuated.
The typhoon is expected to reach wind speeds of 245 kilometres per hour.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi has warned U.S. citizens about Typhoon Yagi.
