WSJ: France and the UK Plan to Deploy 30,000 Peacekeeping Forces to Ukraine
Washington, 23 February (Hibya) – The Wall Street Journal, citing sources from European political circles, reported that the governments of the UK and France are considering sending approximately 30,000 military peacekeeping forces to Ukraine.
The report states that London and Paris have tied the deployment of troops to the achievement of a ceasefire agreement. Subsequently, the UK and France hope to use American military potential to protect the peacekeeping units from threats. Sources noted that the air defense systems already in place in Europe could serve this purpose.
The success of the initiative largely depends on European leaders’ ability to convince U.S. President Donald Trump to support the peacekeeping deployment plan.
French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Washington on 24 February to meet with Trump, while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to travel to Washington on 27 February for talks with the American leader.
