WSJ: Trump to Hold Final Meetings with Fed Chair Candidates
Istanbul, December 10 (Hibya) – According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), U.S. President Donald Trump plans to hold his final meetings with candidates for the next Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair in the coming days.
WSJ, citing senior administration officials, reported that Trump and some of his advisers will meet on Wednesday with former Fed member Kevin Warsh. Other candidates, including National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, are also expected to meet with the president in the coming days.
However, WSJ noted that the meetings could be canceled or postponed, as Trump is still considering his decision on the new Fed Chair.
In recent weeks, markets have viewed Hassett as the likely successor to Jerome Powell, as he largely shares Trump’s views on low interest rates. Prediction market Polymarket shows that traders estimate a 73% chance that Trump will nominate Hassett as the next Fed Chair. Powell’s term ends in May 2026.
On Wednesday, Powell is expected to announce a 25-basis-point rate cut at the end of the Fed meeting, with full attention directed toward the central bank’s outlook for the coming year. Analysts have warned that the Fed could strike a “hawkish” tone in its final meeting of the year.
