About 25 people hospitalized after emergency landing due to turbulence
Stockholm, July 31 (Hibya) – Delta Air Lines announced that 25 people were hospitalized on Wednesday after a flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam made an emergency landing in Minneapolis due to “severe turbulence.”
Delta said that flight DL56 landed safely at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and was met by medical teams upon arrival.
The airline stated that 25 passengers were taken to local hospitals for “evaluation and care.”
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed the flight was diverted due to “in-flight turbulence that caused injuries on board” and said it landed around 7:25 p.m. local time.
The spokesperson added that the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport Fire Department and emergency medical personnel met the plane at the gate and provided “initial medical care to passengers in need” before some were transported to the hospital.
Delta said, “We are grateful for the support of all emergency response teams.”
According to data from flight tracking site Flightradar24, the aircraft climbed over 300 meters in less than 30 seconds about 40 minutes after takeoff. It then descended approximately 400 meters in the next 30 seconds.
The plane soon diverted its course north toward Minneapolis and landed safely about an hour and a half later.
