Albanese: Australia wants the conflict to be resolved
Canberra, April 8 (Hibya) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the agreement between the United States, Israel and Iran on a two-week ceasefire to resolve the Middle East conflict as a “positive development” and said they support diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared his government’s views on the agreement aimed at reducing regional tensions.
Expressing satisfaction with the ceasefire decision, Albanese said: “Australia welcomes the agreement between the United States, Israel and Iran on a two-week ceasefire to find a solution to the Middle East conflict. The Australian Government has for some time been calling for de-escalation and an end to the conflict.”
Highlighting the economic impact of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Albanese said: “Iran’s effective closure of the strait, along with attacks on commercial vessels, civilian infrastructure and oil and gas facilities, is causing unprecedented energy supply shocks and affecting oil and fuel prices. The longer the war continues, the greater its impact on the global economy and the human cost.”
Referring to the importance of international cooperation, Albanese stated: “Australia is working with international partners to support diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ensure the flow of critical supplies to those in need, including the most vulnerable.”
He also thanked mediator countries, including Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
Albanese concluded by calling on all parties to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilian life.
