Almost all USAID personnel have been furloughed or laid off
Washington, February 24 (Hibya) - Nearly all personnel of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have been laid off or will be laid off, leaving only key employees. On Friday, a federal judge allowed the government to continue shutting down the agency.
A number of USAID personnel will be placed on unpaid leave or dismissed by midnight on Sunday local time. According to information on the agency's website, around 1,600 employees working in the U.S. will lose their jobs.
Almost all other employees hired worldwide will also be placed on unpaid leave. Approximately 10,000 people work on various humanitarian and development projects worldwide. Only key personnel will remain on duty.
