Conservatives win German elections, far-right AfD doubles its support
Berlin, February 24 (Hibya) – The conservative opposition in Germany received the most votes in the general elections, but the dramatic rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party may complicate the formation of a government capable of responding to global threats in Europe.
CDU/CSU candidate Friedrich Merz secured around 29% of the votes and is preparing to form a ruling coalition.
Merz stated: "We now need to discuss and establish a government that can act swiftly, restore Germany's position in Europe, and ensure a reliable government."
