Araghchi responds to Trump's Hormuz Strait remarks: Iran has always been its guardian
Tehran, July 13 (Hibya) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi responded on social media to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi responded on social media to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Referring to Trump's statement that "those who ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated," Araghchi said, "The U.S. President is absolutely right on this point. Whoever guarantees the safe and secure passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated for that service."
Arguing that Iran has historically played a key role in safeguarding the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi stated, "Iran has always been the guardian of the Strait and will remain so forever."
Commenting on Trump's proposed 20 percent fee, Araghchi added, "Twenty percent is, of course, far too much. We will be fair."
