Australia sends message of support to ASEAN over Timor-Leste decision
Canberra, May 28 (Hibya) – Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated that they welcome the decision by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to accept Timor-Leste as a full member.
Penny Wong emphasized that Timor-Leste’s full membership, expected to be confirmed at the ASEAN Summit in October, is a significant step, stating: “As a close friend and partner, Australia has long strongly supported Timor-Leste’s full membership in ASEAN.”
Wong added that they believe this decision will strengthen regional cooperation and contribute to Timor-Leste’s development process.
