Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei responded to US officials blaming Iran for rising fuel prices.

In a post on his social media account, Baqaei argued that the United States' role at the beginning of the war and the developments that led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz were being ignored.

Criticizing the US position in his post, Baqaei argued in an assessment beginning with the words "U.S. officials blame Iran for rising fuel prices" that the public was expected to forget how the war began.

Baqaei argued that Iran was not responsible for the crisis that led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and disruptions to commercial shipping, referring to Hitler's portrayal of the 1939 invasion of Poland as an act of defense.

At the end of his post, Baqaei asked whether a party that started an unlawful war blaming the victim for the resulting consequences should be regarded as "strategic genius," or whether the situation could instead be described as "The March of Folly."
